Friday Links: Animusic EditionAnimusic, it’s the wave of the future! Ok, maybe not, but this is still a pretty creative little animation. They could have done one of these things in the original Fantasia as long as it had dancing hippos in it.

Keep reading for Super Mario Crossover, marshmallow towers and the new Boy Scouts merit badges.

Interesting

Super Mario Crossover. Now they just need to add all the other characters you love, like the Jungler.

Showing off the true power of the Starcraft II map editor: Starcraft Kart. I can’t wait to see what else people come up with. Probably FPS Starcraft.

The Halo Reach TV spot continues a long tradition of great live action Halo commercials.

Blizzard breaks off talks with KeSPA for operation of Starcraft as an eSport in South Korea. They say the company won’t respect their ip rights as the designer of the game. I’m on Blizzard’s side here, not because of any sort of ip principle, but because of my blood vendetta against South Korea.

Man dominates Bejeweled, maxing out the score. The guy has also won a stock car race and bowled a perfect game, which is pretty epic. That’s the triple threat we’re all looking for.

This guy is aiming to beat the new record score of 2 billion. You're not quite there yet ...

Halo 2 is still alive because some fans refuse to let it go. Just pull the plug already, it’s already dead. Although there are rumors that if it can hold on for a full month it will rise from the dead as a soul eating zombie game.

The developer for Bodycount says exactly what I’ve been thinking all along: if realism interferes with the fun, scrap it.

Just another reason why Singularity has the potential to be gold.

Funny

The best and worst Atari commercials. I don’t wish I was born in the early 70’s because then I’d be old, but it was certainly a hilarious time.

What the hell is wrong with  Nick Arcade? Seriously …

How to dance to the Wii online music. 10/10

The IBM5100 … this thing was a badass. My generic small business’ efficiency increased by 6000% after I purchased one.

A wild Abra appeared! I choose you.

Great bug in latest TF2 patch that allows engineers to build infinite sentries and dispensers. Well played.

I have brought great shame to my family

Cosplay can either go in the interesting section or the shame section. This Zelda outfit is actually very impressive but I still lean towards the shame overall, like with LARPing. Here’s another great one of a light-up Samus Metroid suit.

Some cosplay is impressive. Some, however, is not

Daigo, Street Fighter IV king, will have his own Mad Katz spinoff joystick. Now you’re really playing like the pros! (This stuff writes itself)

The Mario Kart vanity plate is a big hit with the ladies. (I believe laydeez is the preferred spelling)

Interesting

Great video about building a tower out of marshmallow, spaghetti and string. I would love to do this as a team building exercise. My internship at Stay-Puft would be valuable experience.

Fantastic water billboard. They need more of these things, no matter the cost. Taxes to whatever level required to put these all over the place.

Great dance photographs around New York. Maybe a little overly dramatic but still impressive.

Does anybody else watch this trailer for Plants vs. Zombies on the iPad and think ‘that just looks ridiculously inconvenient and awkward?’ Or am I alone here?

This is one of those guys who shouldn't be allowed to go to playgrounds

Camera shutter speed matched up with helicopter rotor frequency. They’re just trying to hide their anti gravity technology breakthrough.

Funny

The only thing that can stop this asteroid is your liberal arts degree.

Stephen Hawking, once a well regarded genius, has been reduced to warning the world about contact with aliens. Sounds like he’s been watching one too many Spielberg films.

Stephen Hawking warns our President about the impending alien threat. It's too late, they're already among us!

Turn any site into a mid 1990’s esque Geocities site. I used to have one that looked just like this.

Oh yeah – snorkeling is all fun and games until Fishzilla comes to eat you. Flee!

Man claims to have had no food or drink for 70 years. They’ve kept him under study for the past 6 days in which he hasn’t eaten or had anything to drink. I really hope he sees this through and dies of starvation just to prove his point. Maybe they will claim it was a coincidence and was just old age.

San Francisco decides that man not doing anything creepy on a playground is ok. I don’t know why there’s such paranoia about random strangers in parks and stuff; even with no supervision only 10% of children will be brutally murdered. This is an acceptable loss rate.

The Boy Scouts of America introduce video game merit badges. I believe one of them is ‘gained 600 pounds being a lazy fatass.’ What the hell is a Weebilo scout anyway? Some sort of larva?

That’s all for this week. Did I miss anything? Hit up the comments!

  • What’s this all about?

My name is Luke Stillman and Backhand of Justice is my take on all things videogame. I've been inspecting ventilation shafts, liberating princesses and dying of dysentery since my first game in 1988. Stay a while and listen.
