 Friday Links: Climb! Edition

This week’s top link is cringe-worthy as a poor kid can’t get out of a skate bowl. Climb, buddy, CLIMB! You know from the crowd of at least a dozen people that he had been at it quite some time before people started lending assistance. If I was in charge he would just have to stay there and we’d lower sandwiches to him a couple times a day.

Continue reading for various jack-o-lanterns and costumes which I collected in honor of the upcoming holiday. Of course I refer to October 28th, which is apparently ‘Plush Animal Lovers Day.’ I have re-targeted the missiles at wherever that is celebrated.

You can also look forward to Left4Dead pranks, anvil shooting and a murderous ice skating bear. You’ve been warned!

Videogame Links

Interesting

This week’s most interesting article comes courtesy of Mike Fahey about his addiction to Everquest. I managed World of Warcraft just fine, thank you very much. I was able to wean myself off it with methadone.

Destructoid article on how videogames should let us build up a life before we take it down as that would give us perspective and improve the experience. I am skeptical, but you never know.

I couldn’t agree more with this article. I don’t need 50 hour games. I only have so much time and I need the artificial accomplishment of completing a game to validate my meager existence!

Ah Infinity Ward, how the mighty have fallen. You had so much potential, and then you go and do something like this and create an online clusterfuck debacle (clusterbacle). What are you going to do next? Drown me in your huge money pile? Oh, you are? Crap.

Diablo III to replace mana with class specific resources. I’m assuming something like rage / energy / runes etc. Where did they get this inspiration? It’s like magic! Also a must-read interview about the lore of Diablo. I wish my name was Leonard Boyarsky. His friends call him ‘Chef.’

The creative director of Borderlands said he would play a game with everybody who proved to him they preordered Borderlands. He makes good on his word.

Once again, Peter Molyneux embarrasses himself with his ‘Top 5 most revolutionary games.’ Halo brought FPS to the console? Aren’t you forgetting a little game called Goldeneye?

If you haven’t seen the new Left4Dead2 trailer, you really should. Epic.

Hi, I'm Peter Molyneux. My new game will cure AIDS. Also it bakes cookies right in your CD-Drive. I call it Delicious & White. Evil cookies have horns

Funny

I’m sure the director of publicity at the real Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh is like ‘what are all these complaints? We don’t have a zombie infestation, do we?!’ Greatest prank ever.

Toyota executive says kids don’t want cars anymore because of videogames, and that’s the justification for lower sales. Do you really think the shareholders are going to buy that? Really?

Who exactly is in the market for these things? Giant raccoon-Mario rug and the Gears of War snuggie. I don’t think you’re allowed to play Gears of War in a snuggie.

I have brought great shame to my family

Man sets record by playing GTA IV for 40 consecutive hours. Was it really consecutive though? He was allowed one 10 minute break every hour (although he only took four total breaks). Real commitment = colostomy bag.

You know who else wore snuggies? Yeah ... that's right. Losers

Non-Videogame Links

Interesting

Time to kick off the Halloween celebration with various gaming jack-o-lanterns. I realize this is the non-videogame section; what of it?! It’s my blog, I do what I want! Also everybody can probably appreciate the carving artistry.

Following a trend of me not being able to read my section headers, I have included another videogame link. This time of a man building a Halo Elite costume. I, for one, welcome our Elite overlords.

This robot can ski. But can it love?

This man was kidnapped by the Taliban for over 7 months. You’d think in that time he’d really learn to finish his articles. Don’t leave us hanging, what was the great escape?

Barack lookin’ stylish. He seems quite taken with himself. Little did he know this photoshoot would be the greatest accomplishment he’d ever have! All downhill from 1980. Depressing.

This man ‘found’ a discarded surface to air missile launcher in his back yard. Pro tip homeland security: watch this guy.

Documentary about Air Force drone pilots.

The Vancouver olympic flame was lit this week, although will this be the fourth consecutive olympics in which a backup flame is required?

Lit by the sun? Nice try, Vancouver, but check this out!

Funny

Public art of mannequins sleeping in odd places out in public. Except the last one, which is a dead hobo.

I didn’t realize they did the Home Shopping Network live. The Wii salesman, professor fail, should really have practiced this at home first.

I have brought great shame to my family

I thought this video of anvil-shooting would be yet another opportunity for me to make fun of slack-jawed yokels. And yet, I find it fascinating and am campaigning for its inclusion in the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Ice skating bear kills circus director. Yes, seriously. Once the bears get their hands on ice skates, it’s all over. That was our only refuge.

The world’s largest gun suppressor. Must be intentional.

To close it out on a Halloween theme, this man wants a double amputee to complete his Chewbacca / C-3PO costume. Well played, sir.

That wraps up this week. If anybody has anything else interesting – please share. Until next week, keep watching the skies!

  • What’s this all about?

My name is Luke Stillman and Backhand of Justice is my take on all things videogame. I've been inspecting ventilation shafts, liberating princesses and dying of dysentery since my first game in 1988. Stay a while and listen.
