Friday Links: Free Running Edition
Chris O’Neill free running across 50 states in 30 days. This is kind of like those dancing across the world or where in the world is Mike or Carmen Sandiego or whatever they were videos. Except with approximately 18% more free running.
Keep reading for Blue Boxing, Old Navy fat pants and cruise ship chaos.

Interesting
8-bit games rendered in Lego. I can’t decide whether Lego makes all things better or worse. Seems a bit played out, no? I guess use what you have available but as a K’nex user I haven’t seen much love lately.
Trailer of this new 3rd person shooter MMO by ex-Blizzard employees called Firefall. The last few minutes of this clip are of a giant battle and they’re off the hook. This has potential especially given the pedigree of the developers.
PC Zone is auctioning a ton of crap from their offices as they shut themselves down. I guess most of it is cheap crap but maybe there are a few gems in there.
Portal 2 cooperative gameplay looks good. I trust Valve in all things. We should totally get them to branch out of videogames into technology and healthcare. Then all problems would be solved.

The cube returns!
Funny
TF2 dance party made in Garry’s Mod. Dance parties are a good thing. Team Fortress 2 is a good thing. When their powers combine …
I have brought great shame to my family
Wow, talk about a failure with the videogame links this week. Guess there was nothing really interesting or shameful out there. At least the non-videogame section is robust. Better luck next time!
Non-Videogame Links
Interesting
Blue boxing is a pretty cool sounding hacking term. This is also interestnig to see the difference between how Woz and Jobs think about hacking. Also just how thin Woz was back then vs. his current incarnation as a whale.
I guess this is a form of performance art. Abusing the traffic cameras is especially creative though and while zombies seem to be a 2009 thing, this is still a strong effort.
Arthur C. Clarke is a goddamn genius at predicting the future. Look at his CRAZY ideas about the future. By god that is unheard of!
Physics teachers are pretty cool and sometimes go above and beyond to amuse their students. I wish my science teachers had done something like this instead of just molesting children.
Ikea lets out 100 cats into their store as an ‘experiment.’ An experiment in what, exactly? Does it matter? I will support a company that does something just to see what happens.

Let's give it a shot ... just to see what happens
This is probably what the apocalypse is going to look like. Or maybe this is the Mordor live stream. Either way, I like it.
Amazing card throwing. I wonder why somebody would dedicate themselves to card throwing as opposed to something slightly more useful considering it probably takes years to get this good. Maybe he can get a job as the next Bond villain.
Pretty good French ad about poverty. There are many stories of poverty. Most of them involve burning hobos for fuel. I’m sorry, is that offensive? If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.
What dancing is the most attractive? Science will tell us! (Hint: As with all things, the answer is the running man)
Trouser sizes are lying to you. Especially if you buy pants at Old Navy.

You'll be fitting into those 32 waist Old Navy pants in no time
Mincemeat and the Imaginary Man. Suck it, Nazis.
Mega dashboards and instrument panels. It always cracks me up how out of date all modern heavy machinery instrument panels look. Maybe they could spend a little bit on a designer.
Funny
‘I have read your website and it is obviously that your a foggot.’ I just quote some things when it’s difficult to improve upon them. I love 27B/6 and you should really check out the archives if any of it sounds appealing.
Penny Arcade discusses some of the challenges of parenting. Unusual that the Penny Arcade comic would go in the non-videogame section, but rules are rules.
This is why Bollywood movies don’t go international in the same way films from the US do. This shit is not even a parody film or some sort of campy Robert Rodriguez grindhouse thing in India. This is just straight up action.
Need more proof that Keanu Reeves is an immortal time traveler? This is a painting by Parmagianino in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. QED bitches.

Here's a cave painting from 12,000 BC. Whoa
Morpheus meets The Dude – always room for a good mashup.
Ridiculous cruise ship chaos. Is this only funny to me? I guess it’s ok in this section because it doesn’t look like anybody died. Unless those fountains of blood aren’t part of the decoration.
I think Google definitions has some of the same problems as Wikipedia. They really need to limit editing to a smaller subset of people.
Santa knows that when December 25th comes around, it’s go time.
I have brought great shame to my family
These guys made a Steampunk time travel horror show in their garage. It’s pretty impressive, but anybody who is role playing in their garage should be ashamed of themselves.
Victorinox has released a sweet line of fragrances so that you can smell like … well I don’t know … the Swiss Army? Multitasking? Survival? Manliness? All of the above?

The scent of man. Do you need to caulk a tub? There's a fragrance for that
Man spends a lifetime building matchstick boats. I was envisioning stupid matchstick structures when I clicked the link but these are actually fairly badass.
Katy Perry lip synching is overrated. Especially if you ever want to avoid ridicule in your life, or want to continue to have friends. I guess those things aren’t for everybody.
Some skills are not very worthwhile. Unless of course the fate of the world depends on some shoe-tying competition.
That’s all for this week. Did I miss anything? Hit up the comments!
