Friday Links: Herman Cain EditionThis is one of those things that will haunt you for the rest of your life. At least if you’re that kid. By haunt of course, I mean he’ll find it hilarious and will forever be awesome.

Since it’s a double week – we have two top stories. It’s Mike Tyson time – this time as Herman Cain. Good times … potato salad.

Keep reading for Liam Neeson in Life’s Too Short, parachuting with eagles and bullet time surfing.

Interesting

How great Halo cosplay is made. I think it would be tough to dedicate so much time to something for which there is no reward, but I guess this one at least has mass production possibilities.

GTA 5 is coming out. I’m sure it will be as cliche filled and great as the last one. This time it looks like it’s in … Miami? I’m not good at American cityscapes.

Interesting

Parachuting with Eagles. I don’t know how you get more badass.

Some people claim this is staged, but either way it’s impressive. More people would watch table tennis at the Olympics if it was all like this.

Peter Jackson’s production blog about 3d filming on the Hobbit is fairly interesting. Although I think it’s funny that their cameras are worth like $4 million on their own. Still – I trust that the 3d will be impressive, if only because Weta does everything well.

Look at all the dimensions. And the depth of field!

A pretty cool time lapse of a dam breaching. Too bad for the river, though, as it gets owned below the dam.

It’s always amazing to me how much VFX is in simple TV shows. I guess Boardwalk Empire is one where you’d expect it, but it’s still ridiculous.

The trailer for the new film from Studio Ghibli. Sounds like trash pickers.

This would be really creepy. This is why I close shop on Halloween. Although I guess unless you’re a 21 year old going bar crawling in NYC, you have a bigger problem if you’re out going door to door.

This is kind of sad. It’s clear that all we want to see at the cinema is destruction and explosions. Not that they aren’t badass. But I thought people were a little more sophisticated than that.

Beatboxing seems hard enough but adding the dubstep (which I don’t even like) is still fairly impressive.

I need to hire this guy and find him to make my costume next year. Too bad an Asian guy doesn’t make a great Robert Downey Jr, but what are you going to do.

Drinking water in zero G. Oddly disgusting.

Bullet time cameras used for surfing. Although I love the way since all the cameras are on a single boat, the rotation only goes through like 30 degrees. Whatever. Take what you can get.

I need one of these switchblade bottle openers. If anybody has a Christmas list going – this should be on it.

In the surfing theme we have the record wave – a 90 footer. It’s hard to judge how big these things are though just from the video. I’m sure the experts know what they’re doing.

Some of these giant contraptions, like that Russian earthmoving machine, are fascinating. Still, the cornering radius is a little large on this one.

Funny

Liam Neeson kills it (just like Johnny Depp did) in this clip from Life’s Too Short.

Liam Neeson's greatest films: Schindler's List ... Taken. That is all.

Gordon Keith is a master. The one guy who out-Zach Galifianakis’d the man himself.

Toyota should hire this guy to do all their Corolla advertisements.

Just another day in the life of the NPH family. While this is funny, unfortunately I can’t say the same thing of his new movie, Harold & Kumar.

Ah the old Best Buy uniform prank. Too bad they didn’t really take it too well.

Pedobear is apparently one of the mascots for the Vancouver Olympics. This is like when the Onion is published in some mainstream newspaper.

Don’t let Siri know too much. I’m afraid I can’t let you do that, Dave.

For some reason this was the top google search for 'Siri.' Odd.

I still haven’t seen 500 days of summer, but the virginity losing aftermath scene is fairly good.

I have brought great shame to my family

The media has a fairly predictable reaction to the announcement that Conan will officiate a same sex wedding on his show.

Method Man used to be far more hardcore, didn’t he? I mean I realize this isn’t really a kids song or anything but the subject manner is a little questionable for a hardcore rapper.

Wow … just, wow. What kind of awful pop song are we dealing with here?

I don’t even know what’s going on here. It’s like a redneck bizarre sword dance. Is that harsh? I don’t know.

That’s all for this week. Did I miss anything? Hit up the comments!

  • What’s this all about?

My name is Luke Stillman and Backhand of Justice is my take on all things videogame. I've been inspecting ventilation shafts, liberating princesses and dying of dysentery since my first game in 1988. Stay a while and listen.
