Friday Links: Lasers Edition Pew Pew

In what will hopefully become a regular feature, I’m going to aggregate all the interesting / funny / ridiculous stories I saw during the week to make sure you don’t miss anything (wouldn’t that be awkward).
The week’s top link comes from pioneering athletes: Extreme Fountain Riding™. I’m petitioning Jacques Rogge for inclusion at Rio 2016.
The rest are going to be split into videogame and non-videogame related links so you can skip to the appropriate section. You’ll soon realize whether my sense of humor is for you. Enjoy!

Not that I’m really sure what the difference between ‘Generation X’ and ‘Generation Y’ is, or where you draw the line, but this article discusses how we’re going to change the face of gaming.
The Christian Science Monitor (the new authority on gaming) wonders if Infinity Ward went too far by having some scenes in Modern Warfare 2 take place in a war-torn Washington DC.
Gabe Newell went down under to meet an Australian modder who called them out on the forums, and speaks about the future of PC games. surprised the plane could handle all that weight! (I keed, I keed)

Life imitating art?
Is that you Mr. B? Berlin Festival rips off Ken Levine. You’ll be hearing from his lawyer shortly.
Randy Pitchford gets aggressive this week with some controversial statements. Do easy achievements lead to higher game sales? Is Valve secretly screwing the industry with their Trojan horse, Steam? Et tu, Randy?
Singapore teens play 27 hours of videogames a week on average! Keep living the dream, Singapore.
Pre-visualization on what a 2009 Road Rash game would have looked like. Does anybody else remember Road Rash? In 2nd grade everybody else wanted to be a fireman, I wanted to be ‘that guy who whips people with chains from a motorcycle.’ Yeah, I had safety scissors. What of it?
Uncharted 2 statistics show 27 years of multiplayer aggregate have already been played. Is that supposed to be impressive? I’m pretty sure I clocked that in WoW on my own.
Funny
Sega Genesis hacked Mario ripoff game that I will dub ’super fat waddling Mario with shit music.’ BEHOLD the majesty!
FPS character reality show with extremely impressive production values.
I Have Brought Great Shame to my Family
Reactions from the community on XboxLive from using the gamer tag ‘Jesus Died LOL?’ Positive or negative: only the video can reveal this mystery!
Non-Videogame Links
Interesting
It’s the lasers edition, after all, so you knew this was coming. Boeing airborne laser test video.

Used for fantasy movies and killing Baltimore intruders
How Weta made the swords in Lord of the Rings. While I think it looks pretty cool, apparently it’s ‘an inferior creation process’ according to the sword snobs out there. The swordgentsia, I believe.
I went back and forth between putting this in the videogames section or not, but in the end Bonnie Tyler won out over 8-Bit. 8-Bit Total Eclipse of the Heart.
I’m going to be first in line for augmented reality contact lenses. Although I don’t know how they tested this on rabbits. Any scientists out there care to enlighten me?
The more optical illusions like this I see, the more confident I am that I might see everything completely differently from everybody else.
Funny
Don’t miss Cracked’s review of Windows 7. Strangely it comes on four 3.5” floppy disks. Floppies are so two thousand and late.
Ron Jeremy was an extra in Ghostbusters! Wait, you didn’t stay until after the credits?! You’ve never seen Bill Murray like this before (SFW).

What's the only natural predator of the fairy? Oil monsters ... and Hepatitis C
Somebody pointed me to this site from the Nostalgia Critic where he takes 1980’s/1990’s classics and rips them a new one. I had no idea Fern Gully was so bad. A little cheesy but amusing nonetheless.
I Have Brought Great Shame to my Family
This deer was in over his head! See what I did there? Wait … that wasn’t a pun at all … no none of this makes any sense
Slow motion bullet impacts at 1 million FPS. I don’t know why these are always so fascinating to me. Too many chromosomes?
This has been making the rounds, but it has the potential to jump to full meme status due to its catchy title: Yob smacked.
That’s all for this week. If anybody has something incredible that I missed, be sure to pass it along.
