Friday Links: Single Ladies EditionAt least this guy knows he’s a terrible father. This is pure gold. You’re not a single lady!

Interesting

The Dark side of the NES. Pink Floyd would be proud.

Tetris is effective in combating PTSD. Must be the soothing sounds of the 70’s.

We were all afraid of whether Metroid: Other M was going to suck. Let those fears be allayed.  BEHOLD!

Weird Futurestates videogame video. I can’t really tell what’s going on here, but I like it.

Great Team Fortress 2 machinima crossed with live action. Law abiding engineer.

Curt Schilling invested the ‘majority’ of his lifetime earnings into his videogame studio. In fact, he says one more investment will result in the point of no return, where if it fails he will be bankrupt. You have to respect that confidence.

I wish I knew how to quit you. And videogame development

Gameplay videos of the new game Breach, by Avalanche Studios, at PAX. I am cheering for this one because it’s by the 6 Days in Fallujah guys and they deserve a break. It also looks technically competent.

Old and new games remade as FPS. The only one that looks mildly competent is the Mega Man FPS, although I guess that’s fair as it’s the only one that’s a real game.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon continues to gain gaming street cred (some sort of oxymoron) by having Cliffy B on the show next week to announce his new game for the first time.

If you had any doubts that NBA Jam was going to be epic, give those up now. They have brought back Larry Bird and Magic Johnson as boss fights. 10/10

Funny

Gaming in the 90’s, as this video shows, was incredible. What is the G?!

The Uncharted 2 title that should have been. Damn you censors, this would have been gold. Might have pushed it up into last year’s top 5!

Incredible and very subtle humor in Mass Effect 2. I didn’t even think about this when I was playing.

My voice is higher than your voice. Gold.

These guys at Mega64 never fail to amuse. Well done.

I have brought great shame to my family

This is how the 3D on the new Nintendo 3DS is going to work. Ok, I admit, this was pretty pathetic … or creative? I can’t tell. *golf clap*

Ubisoft just trademarked the name ‘Horse Gaga’ for a potential videogame. I can only assume it involves Lady Gaga … and horses. I think this was one of her latest music videos, actually.

I can’t tell whether the Ira Dean band has brought great shame or great pride to their family. I know there’s shame involved, though. Amazing.

Interesting

Remember that scene in The Day After Tomorrow where the fuel lines on the helicopter froze solid and it crashed? Well Antarctica Condition 1 Alert weather is kind of like that, I think.

Jay Leno, not content with ruining everybody’s fun, has now started to write for Wired. Lo and behold, this article is about cars! The only thing that is out of place with this one is the lack of a a jaunty top hat for Jay.

Dude totally admits he’s a complete loser with no friends and too much free time. There, I fixed that headline for you.

Pretty cool painting program online. Not perfect, but it’s a start.

Funny

Stouffers to include suicide prevention tips on single serving microwaveable meals. The Onion strikes again!

I don't know why this would be depressing. It looks delicious

The most badass alphabet in the world. This should go in all sections just so nobody misses it.

The best part about this is how the wrestler just can’t hold it together at the end. I can’t imagine the beating that fan took though from those mean looking security guards.

Alan Grayson, keeping up the good fight vs. all evil robot armies of the world. Best Alan Grayson post since the scandal that Cyberdyne systems was funding his campaign.

Scarface, reenacted by children. I frequently get children to reenact some of my favorite movies like Se7en and Boogie Nights.

The war on booze has only just begun. Piss off, guvna!

I have brought great shame to my family

This state rep’s Twitter comment would have increased my likelihood of voting for him. It is in fact my only personal priority issue.

This is only the second greatest school bus in Japan, contrary to the headline. The greatest, obviously, is the Totoro bus.

No bowl ... stick, stick!

No bowl ... stick, stick!

Squid snack food. No bowl … stick, stick!

That’s all for this week. Did I miss any good ones? Hit up the comments!

  • What’s this all about?

My name is Luke Stillman and Backhand of Justice is my take on all things videogame. I've been inspecting ventilation shafts, liberating princesses and dying of dysentery since my first game in 1988. Stay a while and listen.
