Friday Links: Text-tacular Adventures Edition

Friday Links: Text-tacular Adventures EditionThis was quite possibly the greatest internet week in modern history. Mark the date, chilluns, it’s all downhill from here. Still, I think the top pick has to be revisiting old school text adventures. You owe it to yourself to read all the way through. Ahh, Cracked: How does the website rule so much when the magazine sucks so hard?

Read on for glorious crazy girlfriend vs. the PS3, the ‘Hard Shake’ and Britain’s new robot Queen. Bow down to her, mortals!

Interesting

Apparently wearing Sith or Klan robes as a videogame avatar means you’re going to act in an evil manner. Which one is fantasy again? The Sith or the Klan? I can never remember.

Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten says project Natal could replace TV remotes. So instead of a perfect, simple system for changing channels, you can do the Russian twist or some shit to increase volume. Fail.

The Legend of Halo: Quest for Recon! I must say I am impressed at how well these two mix. Also if anybody has actually played Ocarina lately, it looks staggeringly bad.

Mega Man Doom II modification / combination. I’m surprised Mega Man hasn’t received the Metroid Prime treatment.

Michael Jackson’s lost classic: the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack.

Jeff Kaplan discusses the future of the World of Warcraft. 2 man raid bosses!

Funny

Hilarious crazy girlfriend vs. the PS3 … real / not real? The jury’s still out. I hope it’s real. Also, this is probably me someday.

Why is this the image for the crazy PS3 girlfriend? Who knows. Ours not to reason why, ours but to do and die.

Mega 64 does it again … and again. In fact, every video they have is hilarious but the latest on FFXIII is particularly fun. If you want a little more from the hilarious team at Mega 64, I recommend The Alien Hominid Commercial, or their Ode to California Games.

Half-Life film cast suggestions. I must admit Jean Reno is an inspired choice.

Left 4 Dead 2 gingerbread … men? The tank cookie looks delicious. Tank incoming, take cover! I wonder if the Boomer is filled with jam or something.

Did you think Japan was off the walls crazy? You do now!

I have brought great shame to my family

You might have heard that Final Fantasy XIII is coming out shortly. You can buy FFXIII themed perfume in Japan for a staggering $83. You too could smell like a fake person!

Robin Williams discussing his love of Videogames, especially Call of Duty, on Fallon. I don’t know if he’s the best spokesman but hey, take what you can get, right?

Which one of you dirty rat bastards killed me in Modern Warfare last night?

Final Fantasy has finally jumped the shark with the new Adamantoise. Nuke the fridge!

Power glove: the second coming! The signs are finally here. Repent, ye sinners, lest ye be … how does this go again?

Interesting

Scientists have discovered how to grow meat. In a stunning marketing move, they describe it as ’soggy pork.’ Mmmmm

The 50 most interesting articles on Wikipedia. While this is clearly not the definitive list, some of them are pretty good.

Actors reprising their most famous roles in a photo series. I would argue that Daniel Radcliffe’s series has far too few horses to be a true recounting of his most famous role.

Incredible Steampunk home … maybe a little gimmicky to actually live there, but still cool.

Japanese cocktail virtuoso demonstrating his innovative mixing technique, the ‘hard shake.’ I have a move called the hard shake. Drinks don’t have to be involved, but they certainly help to ease the awkwardness.

The 'Hard Shake' sometimes results in a delicious drink. Sometimes results in 3-6 months and 2 years probation.

Anybody interested in getting Lasik? This is a good primer. There is also the super cheap version done with an overcharged laser pointer. I’ll do it for $45.

Great stuntman photo series. Didn’t necessarily die on all of them considering some are clearly the same person.

Orson Welles,  meet H.G. Wells. Now … fight!

Man’s child support is adjusted so that his take-home income is $58. I hope you don’t like food!

Dragon illusion: solved. This is an old but good one.

Funny

Amusing Improv Anywhere ‘Where’s Rob’ skit at a Knicks game. The untold story behind this video is that Rob is actually mentally handicapped and this wasn’t a skit at all. Shameful exploitation.

Cat –> Served. I thought it had to be fake too, but then I saw the slow motion still picture slowdown. Consider me convinced.

The cupcake periodic table of the elements. I call delicium. I believe it’s in the noble gas column (maybe this should have gone in the great shame section).

Gentlemen, I present to you ... Cupcakeium!

One Queen, 11 Presidents. In other news, giant mouth queen is a robot, will eat you.

The Sun has a new amusing iPhone-esque advertisement. It’s been done before, but this is a shocking move towards clever / classy for the Sun. Maybe a page 3 girl suggested it.

I have brought great shame to my family

SWAT team arrests man who built a LEGO gun in his office. Here is the gun in question. Oh my god, it’s LIFELIKE!

Jack Black gets into a skin tight outfit and dances for children. I hope Yo Gabba Gabba is a late-night show, otherwise somebody needs to call the cops.

Neutra Face, the new hot single from a couple nerds in their office during the off-hours. I liked them before they were cool, man.

Former Ms. Argentina dies after receiving ass surgery. I’m sure that’s not an awkward eulogy or anything.

Man finds his son’s rapist … and rapes him. And so we come full circle.

Anything else? If so, better save it for next week, this one was fully stuffed already.

  • What’s this all about?

My name is Luke Stillman and Backhand of Justice is my take on all things videogame. I've been inspecting ventilation shafts, liberating princesses and dying of dysentery since my first game in 1988. Stay a while and listen.
