Friday Links: There Can Be Only One! Edition
M&M’s: there can be only one. How do you fight such a savage? With heart, faith and steel! The green M&M’s are going down.
Keep reading for well … not much this week actually. Damn you internet, produce!

The Half-Life Black Mesa mod is still coming. Sure, it’s been in development for 6 decades, but when it comes out … goddamn it’s going to be cool. It’s about time too because while HL1 was a good game, it really hasn’t aged well. It’s painful to play now.
Unused stuff from the development of Super Mario Galaxy 2. For some reason this game didn’t capture my attention like the first one … maybe it was all novelty the first time? Maybe it’s because they left out these assets.
Diablo III status update. It still exists, and is progressing nicely. They’re past discovery and about 2/3 done with content creation, then comes the interminable balancing stage, but this still sounds like an end of 2011 timetable.
The Super Mario Kart rainbow road was a pretty epic course. It doesn’t exactly challenge this guy though.

This was always a good time. Ah childhood ... where have you gone?
Epic Citadel is the Epic Games reply to John Carmack’s Rage on the iPad / iPhone demo. Very impressive. Although I still think that the touch interface is terrible.
Funny
There’s nothing even remotely funny on the internet this week about Video Games. Shame on you, internet. Let’s see here … how about the latest Penny Arcade comic? I suppose that will have to do.
I have brought great shame to my family
How to anger gamers. I guess most of this list is true, but I found and murdered the author before I got to the second half.

Interesting
NPR has a ridiculous Vietnam War series about what happened on some of the boats at the end of the year. Crazy stories.
What song was #1 on the day you were born? Mine was the theme to Ghostbusters which is both pretty bad ass and a high bar for everybody else to top. What is going to top it? Thriller? Boys of Summer? The list is fairly small.
Is it possible to make a wind powered vehicle that goes directly downwind faster than the wind? Apparently most physicists think it’s impossible. Are they right?

Here is the mythical unicorn in its natural habitat. This is the only known photo of it
iPhone 4 video recording can’t keep up with propellers on an airplane. Either that, or you’d better prepare for a rough landing.
The top 10 lost technologies including mechanized flight, the toaster and pneumatic drills.
Montage of dancing at the movies. This is well executed, as the clips actually line up with the music fairly well.
The next #1 draft pick. You saw it here first.
The future of playgrounds? Probably not, unless you want a lot of dead children on your hands. Still, a cool idea.
Jesus … this is the Governor of Arizona? What the shit is going on here – how does this even happen? I could make something up on the spot that at least sounds competent … I’m sure she had time to prepare.
Young Ian McKellen. If you are a man and were on the borderline to being gay then this is probably the picture that’s going to push you over the top.

Ian McKellen has good hair ... he must condition
The new Harrier Jet doesn’t have any landing gear. It has really cut costs, as has their tie-in with Sleepy’s.
Swimming with crocodiles looks pretty fun. I’d totally do this. I don’t understand the fear that the plexiglass isn’t going to hold or something – when thick enough it’s bulletproof. We’re fine … until the crocodiles evolve to have guns for hands, of course.
Albino redwood trees – how do they exist? I would think a tree without chlorophyll would struggle to produce energy to survive. Maybe my knowledge of plant biology is less complete than I previously thought.
Double backflips are hard enough, but in a wheelchair is even rougher. Impressive to stick the landing.
Potential cure to ebola? One can only hope so that I’m willing to go to the rainforest. Didn’t anybody else see Outbreak?
Funny
Jesus Russia is cool. Just look at this picture … look at it! How are we going to compete with that? I already bought the Russian Rosetta Stone. You should too – you’ll thank me later.
Weird Olivia Munn fish dance. Part of this is funny. Partly it’s sad that this is really the best way to get ahead as an aspiring female actress. Can’t argue with the results though: AotS, The Daily Show and Iron Man 2.

Yep ... this is about par for the course for Olivia Munn on G4
Every good house needs house rules. What do you know? This is a picture of my house!
Even the Top Gear t-shirts are funny. Is there nothing the show can’t do?
Improv Everywhere strikes again with Black Tie at the Beach. This is a relatively creative one – good to see they can still invent interesting scenarios.
At what point does satire become so subtle that it might as well be serious? I think this is walking a fine line.
I have brought great shame to my family
15 tips for ordering wine in a restaurant. Most of the things on this list are about ‘don’t do this, it’s pretentious,’ but this list is the most pretentious thing I’ve read in a while. It’s wine … drink it. My TMNT thermos keeps my wine cold. Fancy that.
What? I’m a dog, so what? Merengue is so easy that anybody can do it. This little guy has some style.
Maybe people wouldn’t be so annoyed about clock towers if they played pop songs instead of stuping bonging.
Why are you sobese? Because the Devil is out to make you fat!

The devil wants to make you fat so he doesn't feel so bad in comparison
Too bad they still don’t have any toys like this. Tommy Burst, from Mattel! You know it’s Mattel because it’s swell.
Ha – your move, captcha! Somehow I don’t think this was accepted as the correct response.
That’s all for this week. Did I miss anything? Hit up the comments!
